"Verdant green fields, fallow hills and lush meadows" Fallow implies nothing is growing even though that isn't strictly true.

"So I don't get cholera?” I answered rhetorically." Is the ? purposeful? It might be better to change rhetorically to incredulously if it is.

"I would rather prefer to forget about it completely. I'd sooner forget it happened." redundant

"Through the new town and its wooden buildings the large stone wall, it seemed old, ancient even and stood ten meters tall and must have been three meters thick." Confusing.

"A bigger city means more security, its size befitting for how large this place is" I don't understand what this means. This may stem from ambiguity as to what its is referring.
